7 Disrupted Interviews With History (2007)

One of five – up to date – Little Red Books… which owe their look to Mao’s little red books and to the Gideon’s little red covered Bible which appeared miraculously at the beginning of each year at state run primary schools. The Little Red Books have conflict as their through line World & the Artwork chances are the Art is so hollow it will leave you feeling empty too… confused; even sick. and insist that William Blake’s Jerusalem waits to be built. When there isn’t a connection between the title, 7 Disrupted Interviews with History is a variation on Oriana Fallaci’s Interviews with History. The book uses the traditional school blackboard as the background for its text, which is handwritten in what appears to be white chalk – as if it was today’s lesson. The books beginning was twofold… there was the celebration of the Noogar peoples’ successful Native Title claim in Western Australia and the death of Mulrunji Doomadgee while in police custody on Palm Island. The subject of Black history in Australia lends itself to interpretation through political photomontage… the shame continues – even last year The Voice Referendum was lost.
