Sometimes we go to books looking for answers – so In These Great Times has a Bible style binding. How should we feel if we go looking for answers and find only more questions? In These Great Times is not afraid of questions – in fact it’s full of them; because over a 6 months period I collected as many of them as I could find in magazines, community announcements, leaflets, brochures and pamphlets. The design of the book owes a lot to Malevitch, Albers, El Lissitski and Rodchenko. I selected the questions which had the typography/colours which I would ordinarily shy away from. I’ve stolen the title from Karl Kraus. So this is the codex which after more than 2,500 years of history offers not a single answer – or even the suggestion of an answer – and walks that line proudly.
